These old survival hacks were printed on small insert cards and placed inside of cigarette boxes.

Some of these seem useful, others not so much.

I'd let you be the judge.

Here are 20 Survival Hacks They Used 100 Years Ago

How To Windproof a Match

Cut some grooves into the sides of your matches on a windy day, and the flame on your match will burn stronger.

Homemade Fire Extinguisher

100 years ago you had to make your own fire extinguisher.

Mix 1 pound of salt with 1/2 pound of of Ammonia.

Add this mixture to 2 liters of water and throw the mixture at the base of a fire.

Automatic Plant Watering

Fill a large container with water and set it above the plants you want to water.

Put a piece of yarn or rope in the water container.

Then rest the other end of the rope in the plants you want to water.

How To Remove a Splinter

Fill a jar 3/4 of the way up with hot water.

Then place your hand (or body part where splinter is lodged) over the opening, and allow the suction process to work.

After a few minutes, you should be able to pull out the splinter.
