The other day the wind was blowing extremely hard. Rain was blowing against the windows and smalls trees were toppling over. Then we heard a loud *crack* right before the TV and lights went dark. I won't lie, I was a tiny bit excited to use all of my gadgets. But I wasn't fully prepared. After about 6 hours our battery lantern started to flicker. I needed to find a better way to light up the living room.
This is the homemade DIY survival lantern.
- Empty can
Step 1 - Gather all of the items you'll need. The empty soda can, candle, and sharp knife are crucial.
Step 2 - Use your knife to start cutting off the ends of the can. Don't cut them all the way off.
Step 3 - You will want to cut the lid 3/4 of the way off. Remember to leave a little bit on each end.
Step 4 - Now cut down the middle of the can so you have two flaps that you can pull apart.
Step 5 - Make sure to tuck the lid opener under so it doesn't mess with the ballance of your lantern.
Step 6 - Drip some wax inside the can and place your candle in the center.
From here you can adjust the flaps as needed. You can have a wide glow or leave the flaps more closed for a better focused beam.
