How To Make a Camping Intruder Alarm

If you're camping or living off grid, you might want to consider putting up some perimeter security.  The method we're going to show you will make a loud "pop" when triggered, and will scare away large predators such as bears and wolves.

Camping Intruder Alarm

Here's what you'll need.
  1. Mouse Trap
  2. Party Poppers
  3. Fishing Line
  4. Tape

Step 1 - Cut open the party popper and pull out the explosives. Then cut off the strings, as you won't need them.

Step 2 - Tape the explosives to the mouse trap.  Make sure the trap will come down on the center of the explosive.

Step 3 - Make a loop in your fishing line and attach it to the mouse trap's trigger.

Step 4 - Attach your mouse trap to the base of a tree.  You can conceal it so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Step 5 - Tie your fishing line around the base of a tree and make a perimeter around your camp.

Step 6 - Tie off the other end of the fishing line to your mouse trap trigger.  If anything bumps against your perimeter string, it will set off the explosion.

Step 7 - Attack your intruder with your weapon of choice.

I’ve always started my survival kit with a basic kit like the Gerber to begin with. Then I add or remove items that are of little or no use in exchange for items I know will be of use or anticipate will be of use. If you live near a desert, having fishhooks is of little or no use, instead, line for snares and deadfalls are more appropriate. Extra plastic sheeting for making solar stills a must and so on. The biggest problem I see with an off the shelf kit is that, they don’t address the needs an individual may have pertaining to the area that person will most likely be trying to survive in.
